Tattoo Aftercare Advice

LEAVE IT ALONE

Our studio uses two types of protective film which needs to be left on for a certain amount of time depending on the type chosen by your tattoo artist.

- For second skin leave on for 2/3 days

- For plastic wrap leave on for 3/4 hours

Once removed, start with the after care routine.

GET THE SECOND SKIN OFF

We recommend removing the second skin off carefully under lukewarm water.

From that point you can start the after care routine.

If the second skin film comes off before 3 days, do not worry,  just start with the following aftercare.

KEEP THE TATTOOED SKIN CLEAN

Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo. Use a PH neutral soap without perfume and alcohol.

Clean the newly tattooed skin gently, and rinse well, tap dry the tattoo with paper towels.

NOURISH YOUR SKIN

Apply a tattoo cream to the tattooed skin after washing and drying it, 1-2 times a day, every day for around 1 week-10 days, when the skin feels tight. Be careful not to over-moisturise it!

AVOID SUN EXPOSURE

Keep the tattooed area out of the sun for at least a few weeks. Only once healed, use sunblock to protect it.

AVOID BEING SUBMERGED IN WATER

Avoid being submerged in common spaces of water such as the beach, pools, hot tubs or bath tubs.

CHOOSE CLOTHING CAREFULLY

Don't wear anything that might stick to the tattoo

or rub on it, choose something loose and comfy!

ALLOW UP TO 3 WEEKS FOR HEALING

During the healing process, your tattoo will peel and itch.

It is normal, your skin is rebuilding itself. Don't pick at the scabs or scratch it!

SPECIAL TATTOO PLACEMENT

Not all tattoos require film and sometimes the aftercare changes from the usual. Some of those placements include: Finger, Hands, Neck, Feet, Pubic Zone, Butt, Face and behind the Ear.

Paying special attention to your tattoo aftercare is very important, as it will allow it to heal quickly and keep it looking great for years to come.

If you got  a hand tattoo we highly recommend taking a few days off. Also it’s extremely important to know that hands, fingers and feet tattoos fade faster and often require multiple touch-ups.

As for feet tattoos, consider what kind of shoes you normally wear, so that you can avoid frictioning and rubbing.

For face tattoos abstain from your daily face wash, moisturizer and whatever else you may use for your skincare,  just use a PH neutral soap and tattoo cream only on the tattooed area.

After getting a neck tattoo, try not to move it a lot and avoid turtleneck shirts.

When you get a tattoo behind the ear, when washing your hair make sure that the shampoo has been rinsed well.

For tattoos on the pubic zone or on the butt make sure to wear loose underwear (or if you can, do not wear any underwear at all) and loose fit clothes so that you can avoid frictioning and rubbing on the new tattoo.
